Position summary

Program, Setup, and Maintain an enhanced accuracy CMM and many other types of metrology equipment to validate a wide variety of precise components to submicron accuracy.  Work with the Tooling Department and Manufacturing closely to ensure components meet customer specifications.  Assist in developing, documenting, and maintaining all related processes and tasks.  Work in a strong team environment, and interact with many customers both internal and external.   

Essential Job Functions                                                      

  • Advanced dimensional/visual inspection methods, data analysis, and Inspection Equipment maintenance
  • Program, setup, and maintain an enhanced accuracy CMM validating precise tooling components and other piece parts. Along with various other precision testing equipment, Vision Systems, and Gages.
  • Devise fixture concepts and participate in gage and fixture development
  • Create inspection work instructions
  • Gage R&R analysis using Minitab
  • Identify and implement inspection methods and equipment to reduce cost and improve productivity
  • Performs inspections in support of FAI's, and Process Capability (IQ, OQ, PQ) studies
  • Analyze data and provide feedback during qualification process
  • Audits and trains employees in the proper use of inspection equipment and documentation
  • Interprets SPC results
  • Perform basic maintenance of inspection equipment
  • Advanced troubleshooting and decision making skills
  • Support/troubleshoot programs in production
  • Implement and analyze artifact checks for various precision testing equipment
  • Timely and complete documentation
  • Accurately record and report inspection results
  • Enters and logs time per part into the ERP system on a timely basis
  • Recommends changes to quality documentation


  • Workplace, process enhancements through OE
  • Maintains an organized work area (5S) to include workstations, and equipment in the Metrology Lab
  • Participates in the Change4Better/Safety program to help drive for a better workplace
  • Participates in A3's, Kaizen, and Learning to See Waste as the opportunity is presented

Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience (incl. KSA's and certifications)

  • Advanced knowledge of inspection equipment use and maintenance
  • Advanced level blueprint reading skills
  • Advanced knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerencing (GD&T)
  • Excellent shop math skills to include: fractions, decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and trigonometry
  • Fluent in 2D and 3D CAD
  • Technical writing skills
  • Advanced comprehension and practice of work instructions, SOP's and training documents, including the ability to create new work and training instructions
  • Competent with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel), Minitab, and ERP systems
  • Advanced problem solving and decision making skills
  • Managing internal and external relationships
  • Ability to perform visual inspections using microscopes
  • Ability to quickly shift priorities to support changes in workload
  • Organizing / managing multiple requirements and deadlines
  • Ability to take direction
  • Ability to provide input and participate in department meetings
  • Ability to cross train when required
  • Dexterity and hand and eye coordination
  • Attention to detail
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 5 years of experience in quality assurance working with precision tooling


Desirable Criteria & Qualifications

  • 2 year Technical College / Machine Trades / Quality Training is preferred
  • Previous experience in the machining or toolmaking trade is preferred
  • ASQ certifications is a plus
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/13485 is a plus
