Position summary

The Machinist I is a production position responsible for keeping the Wire EDM machine maintained and cutting quality parts. This machinist will perform standard and repetitive sequences of operations where programs are provided and setups are made and maintained by others.  Operations include Production Wire EDM and assisting with Laser welding, requiring employees to be familiar with tooling and procedures and work with parts where tolerances are close, but not difficult to maintain. At this level the operator needs to be able to check parts for conformance to specifications.

 Essential Job Functions                                                                

  • Provides a basic level of machining techniques; fixturing, offsetting, tool changes, tool pre-setting, tool deflection, layouts and tool & holding types
  • Uses measuring tools to inspect parts; Caliper, Micrometer, Bore Gage, Thread Gage, Indicators, Gage Pins, Gage Rings, Pressure Mic, Profilometer
  • Uses visual inspection equipment; OGP, Keyance, Comparator
  • Provides machine maintenance by checking the way lube, coolant/oil levels, inspecting the doors, guards and shields, refractometer use/chip removal
  • Understands sample sizes and frequencies
  • Completes daily production sheets
  • Uploads and downloads basic machining programs
  • Understands how to buff and deburr product
  • Initiates the process for non-confirming material
  • Understands basic blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing well enough to manufacture and measure parts
  • Understands basic shop math skills
  • Reads and complies with work instructions, set up sheets, and checklists
  • Enters production information into the ERP system on a timely basis

Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience (incl. KSA's and certifications)

  • Diploma in a machining related program from a technical or trade school or equivalent experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read, comprehend, follow and document work instructions, standard operating procedures, and training documents
  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • Dexterity and hand and eye coordination
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong problem solving skills

Desirable Criteria & Qualifications

  • Two year Machining Degree
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
