Position summary

Coordinates the purchasing of all manufacturing outside services, supplies and raw material.  Negotiates contracts with suppliers including pricing, terms and quality requirements.  Manages raw material inventories.

Essential Job Functions                                                                

  • Subject matter expert in: procurement and selection of suppliers, supplier contracts, raw material inventory management
  • Works directly with suppliers to maximize Meier's overall purchasing value
  • Works toward reducing material and subcontract costs through strategic supplier selection and agreements. Focuses on cost containment in every purchase
  • Develops and maintains effective supplier relationships. Evaluates best long-term strategies with suppliers to place the company in the best competitive position, and presents options to management
  • Maintains approved supplier database
  • Measures supplier performance and provides feedback to them
  • Leads efforts with Supplier Quality Team to develop new suppliers for at risk items including limited availability materials and processes, existing suppliers that are unable to meet current quality requirements, and potential cost reduction efforts
  • Clearly communicates urgent situations and prevents lost time through the production process. Emphasizes expediency and productivity in communications. Maintains open communication with Technicians, Customer Service, Production Planning, Shipping, and management daily
  • Ensures inventory remains at high accuracy levels. Oversees changes necessary to keep accuracy high.  Maintains high inventory turns and finds ways to improve turns through just-in-time supplier deliveries
  • Monitors the utilization of employee safety and OE programs
  • Partners with the other business segments: sales/marketing, customer service, engineering, quality, and finance
  • Understands customer needs and the core business markets we serve
  • Ensures business systems are implemented, maintained, and functioning properly
  • Participates in required company meetings
  • Maintains an organized work area (5S)
  • Participates in the Operational Excellence Program
  • Supports and complies with the company's Quality System, ISO, and medical device requirements
  • Completes all other work duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience (incl. KSA's and certifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Certifications: CPP, CPIM or CSCP
  • Experience: 4 years' experience with procurement
  • Experience working independently under pressure with multiple deadlines. Demonstrates ability to manage time effectively, prioritize work and complete paperwork accurately
  • Ability to consistently achieve short and long term business results
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks when needed
  • Ability to follow through on commitments and holds team members accountable
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and ERP and other business related systems

Desirable Criteria & Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience
  • Continuing Education; including participation in local chapters, associations, and/or organizations
  • ERP experience with EPICOR 10
